Talking to reporters, the adviser said the government wanted peace in the mineral-rich province to improve the aggravated situation there.

| Balochistan quake kills 155 | QUETTA: The death toll from the earthquake in Balochistan has risen to 155. The 6.4 magnitude quake hit a rural area of the province before dawn on Wednesday. According to reports coming from the area say more than 155 deaths have been confirmed and that the figure will likely rise as rescuers reach remote villages. Report said hundreds more have been injured and some 25,000 people left homeless and appealed for help. Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation Zamaruk Khan said the government was preparing to provide food, shelter and medical care to survivors of the quake. 'Eight villages in Ziarat have been badly affected and there are still many areas which have not yet been reached,' Khan told Reuters. Separately, a district official said at least 80 people were killed when the quake struck the region bringing down hundreds of mud-walled houses.

| Pro-government Bugti leader, friend killed | QUETTA: Bugti leader Wadera Muhammad Maluk Bugti along with his companion was gunned down in Lajo Safari area of Dera Bugti district on Tuesday evening. The Dera Bugti district police officer said that Maluk Bugti was going to Sui from Dera Bugti town along with Saiful Bugti in his car when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on the vehicle, killing both of them on the spot. app

| Raisani asks militants to reciprocate truce offer |  QUETTA: A ceasefire by the security forces and militants is essential for peace and tranquillity in Balochistan and government forces are already observing a unilateral truce, Chief Minister Aslam Khan Raisani said on Monday.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of 89th Course of National Management College here, the chief minister said that the government was serious in amicably resolving the issues facing Balochistan and that was why all cases against Nawab Marri’s family had been withdrawn.

| Rail track blown up in Quetta two injured in Quetta blast |  QUETTA, Oct 20: Rail link between Quetta and the rest of the country were cut off after a powerful blast blew up a track in Sariab late on Monday night.
Police sources said that the explosive device was planted at a track near Musa colony. They said a three feet long piece of the track was damaged.According to railway officials, rail traffic was expected to restore by Tuesday morning.

| Six explosions rock Kholu |  QUETTA: The troubled Kholu town was rocked in the early hours of Tuesday by a powerful explosions, which occurred near the military cantonment under construction.
‘Six powerful explosions were heard in the small township,” sources said, adding that blasts created panic among the people.
Sources said that blasts occurred along the recently constructed boundary wall of the military cantonment which was strongly opposed by the Baloch national parties.
‘A portion of the boundary wall collapsed in the powerful explosion,” sources said.
However, Javed Gharshin, DPO, Kohlu district said that no casualty had been reported in either of the six explosions.
Meanwhile, a check post of the security forces was attacked in Pir Koh area where militants were reported as firing rockets and using other weapons.

| BNP-M vows to resist IDPs’ settlement in Balochistan |  * Former senator Sanaullah Baloch says PPP government should not snub the Baloch while taking major decisions
QUETTA: The Balochistan National Party – Mengal (BNP-Ml) has expressed its concern over a reported government plan to settle around 80,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Bajaur in Balochistan and warned to resist the move ‘tooth and nail’.
Former senator Sanaullah Baloch, the party’s central secretary information, told Daily Times on Tuesday that he had recently met with the party’s chief and veteran Baloch nationalist leader Sardar Attaullah Mengal at his residence in Wadh area of Khuzdar district. He said he shared the alarm with his party chief regarding reports that the government had recently asked a reputed international humanitarian organisation to prepare the ground in Balochistan for 80,000 IDPs - whose number would later rise to 200,00 - from Bajaur Agency. “We are extremely concerned about such moves as they amount to creating a demographic imbalance in the Baloch-majority province,” said the BNP secretary information, adding that the Baloch would strongly resist the government’s plans to bring more outsiders to the least populated province of the country where the presence of a large number of Afghan refugees has for long been described as the main source of growing religious fundamentalism and suicide bombings.
